Naracoorte Lucindale Council

Council Members

Naracoorte Lucindale Council has 11 Elected Members, comprising the Mayor and 10 Councillors.

The Mayor is elected by all voters in our Council area. The Mayor presides over all Council meetings and is the official spokesperson for Council.

All Council members have been elected by the community to represent your interests. Like you, they are residents or ratepayers and share your concerns about quality of life and the provision of services and facilities.

Council Meetings

Council meetings are held in the Naracoorte Council Chamber, DeGaris Place, usually on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 5.00pm. Mayor Erika Vickery presides over these meetings.

Copies of the meeting agendas are available in the Council Chamber on meeting days for members of the public. Agendas, reports and minutes for all meetings are available at the Council Offices to view or on the website.

Decisions made at a formal council meeting provide the direction and authority for the Council's ongoing operations. These decisions give direction to the CEO and are implemented by Council staff.

Meetings also allow the Mayor and Elected Members to determine the Council's policy direction and make decisions on other statutory matters.

Council is a corporate body and can only make decisions by resolution. This means a motion must be put to a properly convened meeting and can only be passed by a majority vote.

With the exception of the Mayor, who chairs the meeting, all members present at a Council meeting vote on every motion put to the meeting. The Mayor has a casting vote only if the voting is tied.

Most decisions are made at monthly Council Meetings, but Naracoorte Lucindale Council also has a number of committees, click below for more information on each committee:

Meetings Open to the Public

Generally all meetings of Council and its Committees are open to the public and the media.

There are occasions, however, where the Council or one of its Committees may resolve that the meeting be closed so that an item can be considered in confidence.  All members of the public are required to leave the meeting for the duration of that particular discussion.

Items for which the meeting may be closed include personnel or legal issues, personal hardship of a person, industrial or contractual matters or property or commercial transactions in which the Council has an interest.

These items are usually considered at the end of the meeting so as not to inconvenience members of the public who are attending the meeting.

Public Involvement

There are various ways community members can make their views known to Council.  These include letters or petitions to Council.  You can also address a meeting of Council during the Public Forum at the start of the Council meeting or request a deputation to address one of its Committees.  This request should be in writing addressed to the Chief Executive at least a week before the meeting.  You do not need to stay for the entire meeting, but may leave quietly at any time you choose.

Members of the public are not permitted to enter into the debate at meetings and must remain silent at all times.
